Rajasthan Desert
The
desert in Rajasthan is one of the most fascinating and intriguing
features of this state. One of the biggest deserts in India, the Thar
Desert is also known as the Great Indian Desert. The total area of the
Thar Desert is around 200,000 square kilometers and is located partly in
India and partly in Pakistan. The desert is surrounded by Indus Valley
in the West, Rann of Kutch in the South, plains of Punjab in North and

The landscape of the desert is marked by barren hills, sandy terrain,
and sand dunes of different shapes and sizes. Most of these sand dunes

desert is very erratic and the maximum rainfall that the desert receives
varies between 100-500 mm. The monsoons hit the desert during the months
of July to September. The desert is dotted with salty lakes here and
there.
The arid land also has its own special charm. The vast expanse of
golden sands, the ever-changing sand dunes, the occasional vegetation,
the row of camels walking slowly and the sun painting the entire

francolin, quail and great bustard, amongst birds can be seen inhabiting
this region. Sand grouse, ducks, and geese are the common migratory
birds to the area.
